Teaching Leadership through ServiceDo nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.  Rather, in humility value others above yourselves not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others (Philippians 2:3)

This past January, our middle and high school boys partnered with High Ridge Church and participated in a service endeavor called “The Taste Project” at a restaurant on S. Main Street in Fort Worth called Taste Community Restaurant.  The Taste Project is a non-profit established to “feed people one community at a time” whose mission is “to feed, educate, and serve our community so they may ‘…taste and see the Lord is good.’” (Psalm 34:8) (tasteproject.org)

Teaching Leadership through ServiceThe diverse menu of Taste Community Restaurant includes Pimento Cheese Bruschetta, Kale and Spinach Salad, and Carrot Curry Soup for small plate choices.  For lunch that day, patrons could order a traditional burger, All American Chili, or Mojo Pork Street Tacos.  There was also a delicious side and dessert menu included.

Teaching Leadership through ServiceThe boys enjoyed setting tables, taking orders, serving food, and cleaning up.  It was definitely a day of “doing something different” as they wore aprons and latex gloves.   They laughed a lot and made bonds with each other as they served others.  Program director Felix Stiggers as well as Program Assistant Matt Wooster accompanied the boys and guided them through this important day of service.
